Meet Donna Green
Midlife women are in their Own Business Era: 25 for 25
For so many reasons, midlife women are in their Own Business Era.
I’m lucky to know many women who’ve left corporate culture, and are now building and scaling their own thing. Trademarking their IP, working solo or employing and contracting others.
During December, I’m publishing an alternative advent calendar featuring midlife women who’ve decided to be the boss of their own careers.
This series of posts, 25 for 25, features midlife women on the rise. Behind the next door on my alternative advent calendar is brand photographer, Donna Green.
From “comfortable invisibility” to a storytelling mission: brand photographer Donna Green
Donna Green’s on a mission to help business owners stop hiding and feel proud to be visible.
Donna is a brand photography specialist based in Edinburgh, who works with service-based business owners across Scotland to help them connect deeply with their audience through authentic storytelling photography.
Donna’s approach is deeply strategic, meticulously detailed and underpinned by rigorous planning. I know this for a fact, because we’ve worked together.
“I don’t just capture what my clients do - I showcase who they are, creating imagery that aligns perfectly with their brand story and business goals. This ensures my clients receive a collection of business images that are not only visually stunning but help them sell.”
2025 is for …
Next year will be full of exciting collaborations. Donna is a founding member of the Edinburgh Marketing Collective. As well as delivering more interactive workshops next year, the collective is currently cooking up more plans to help local small businesses grow. Donna is also collaborating with other small business owners on various initiatives, so watch this space.
Inspiration & motivation comes from …
Curiosity and challenge. Donna says - “I'm nosy, so I LOVE hearing all about my clients' businesses and what makes them tick. Each client is different, each business I help is fascinating in its own unique way, and I love the personal challenge of using not just my camera skills but my many years of professional experience in comms, PR and marketing to help service-based small business owners across Scotland sell and grow.”
When she first started out, Donna says her fear of visibility was crippling - “I had no idea that a healthy mindset is so vital in running your own business, and if that's in the toilet, you'll get nowhere fast!”
She calls her default setting "comfortable invisibility", and says that it's taken a lot of work to rewire her brain into now being fine with showing up and being seen. Lots of clients come to her feeling nervous about exactly the same thing, particularly being in front of a camera, and Donna loves using her firsthand knowledge to support them with this.
Donna’s advice for her younger self
“You CAN do the things you think you can't, if you just have the guts to try. Just think of the very worst things that could happen, visualise what you'd do if they actually happened, then you'll see it's safe to have a go. Start small, but never, ever stop doing new things!”
“You CAN do the things you think you can't, if you just have the guts to try.”
