Meet Laurie Macpherson
Midlife women are in their Own Business Era: 25 for 25
For so many reasons, midlife women are in their Own Business Era.
I’m lucky to know many women who’ve left corporate culture, and are now building and scaling their own thing. Trademarking their IP, working solo or employing and contracting others.
During December, I’m publishing an alternative advent calendar featuring midlife women who’ve decided to be the boss of their own careers.
This series of posts, 25 for 25, features midlife women on the rise. Behind the next door on my alternative advent calendar is Laurie Macpherson, career and LinkedIn mentor.
“You'll always be figuring it out. Ignore 'imposter syndrome', it's a lazy cop-out. Do the thing and then you'll get confident.”

“I never thought I’d get to do this”: Laurie Macpherson
Laurie Macpherson is a career and LinkedIn mentor who helps senior women find the role they love at the salary they deserve. She also helps business owners get found on LinkedIn. Like many of the women in this series of profiles, Laurie’s career evolved differently from expectation, in a positive way. As she says, “I never thought I'd get to do this”.
Laurie has helped hundreds of women find jobs that suit their lifestyle, pay well and align with their purpose. She made a big pivot during the pandemic, changing from management training to supporting people into work. At that point, she’d already been using LinkedIn for several years to promote her own business and had built a fun, friendly and supportive community there. Now she teaches others to do the same - namely to connect with ideal clients and hiring managers. She also creates content for some great business owners.
“I‘m passionate about visibility, women doing work they love and businesses using this great FREE tool to get seen.”
2025 is for …
Laurie’s looking forward to growing the LinkedIn side of her business, while continuing to support lots more senior women to take the next step in their careers. She’s kicking off the year with a fun, fast-paced January Challenge, as well as working on mentoring programmes, speaking in groups and creating more great content, as LinkedIn continues to get more human.
Inspiration & motivation comes from …
“Seeing people succeed! And recently, seeing my posts out in the world and getting interaction.”
Laurie’s advice for her younger self
“You'll always be figuring it out. Ignore 'imposter syndrome', it's a lazy cop-out. Do the thing and then you'll get confident.”
