Meet Siobhan Meaker & Claire Irving
Midlife women are in their Own Business Era: 25 for 25
For so many reasons, midlife women are in their Own Business Era.
I’m lucky to know many women who’ve left corporate culture, and are now building and scaling their own thing. Trademarking their IP, working solo or employing and contracting others.
During December, I’m publishing an alternative advent calendar featuring midlife women who’ve decided to be the boss of their own careers.
This series of posts, 25 for 25, features midlife women on the rise. Behind the next door on my alternative advent calendar is a midlife team, Siobhan Meaker and Claire Irving of Better.
Siobhan Meaker & Claire Irving: Better Strategic Consultancy
A midlife team today - business partners Siobhan Meaker and Claire Irving - who run a strategic consultancy called Better for charities and businesses with purpose. They set it up so they could work in a way that was true to their values and shared their combined experience, expertise and joyful creativity.
Both women have had pivotal moments along the way. For Siobhan, a cancer diagnosis at 33 threw all the jigsaw pieces skyward. Suddenly heading up comms in a hospice didn't fit, but retraining in physical activity for cancer did. It led Siobhan on an incredible journey of training and learning.
For Claire, it was leading two organisations through extreme challenge and change, including a healthcare charity through covid. To be able to work in a way which allowed her to be more present for her family, plus share her expertise and passions to a wider range of organisations, became the drive behind their business.
2025 is for …
Next year, the women will test a new training package for sales teams. They’re also both excited about plans to launch their podcast.
Inspiration & motivation comes from …
“Seeing the impact we make for our clients and knowing we're putting good things out into the world. It's also so motivating to be able to work authentically, to our values and in a way that supports us to live well.”
Siobhan & Claire’s advice for their younger selves
Siobhan - “The path to success lies in the wrong turns and alleyways along the way.”
Claire - “Success isn't defined by career ambitions, but by seeking fulfilment in doing what you love and living by your values.”
