Copy clichés: womenswear
Have you noticed how many items of women’s clothing are given actual women’s names?
They’re all at it! What’s it all about?
Generally, they’re not named Susan or Caroline. They’re faux-Downton Abbey, like Viola or Florrie (Upstairs/Downstairs examples). Or something more exotic like Fabienne.
Mildly adjacent to a status move I read about recently, in which people signal their education by naming their pets after figures in classical myth. I remembered wryly the dean of my college having a pet called Argos, which was decidedly NOT named after the cut-price UK retailer, but rather Odysseus’ dog. Even me mentioning it is a education-signaller in itself - sorry!
Anyway, I’m tired of clothes named after imaginary women. It’s all played out now.

The Raptures by Jan Carson. A mystery illness invades a rural village. Loved this fiction by a Northern-Irish writer. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Strong Language: The fastest, smartest, cheapest marketing tool you’re not using by Chris West. Still attacking this with highlighters, but it’s a great read for anyone building their verbal brand. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
10X is easier than 2X by Dan Sullivan and Dr Benjamin Hardy. Strong premise (exponential growth is easier than gradual progress, and it’s achieved by doing less) but the book itself is quite repetitive. I’m going to see it through to the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Be Right Back: an AI scenario that's both a blessing and an abomination by Paul Bloom of
. Fascinating speculation about the future of AI simulations of people (and how they could be used and monetised). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Rabid Rabbits by Lucy Sweet. It’s reasonably rare to laugh out loud at the written word. I love
and this analysis of Easter decor does not disappoint. 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣Last Chance U (Netflix). How was I not aware before now of this Emmy-winning documentary about elite college athletes? Zero interest in American football but SO invested. Surely every college/school needs a Brittany Wagner? 🏈 🏈 🏈 🏈 🏈
