Slogan-ing summer
Appreciated this from New Neuromarketing on how to create a memorable slogan. And this from Shlomo Genchin on brand taglines. Probably because I’ve been working on one-liners for midlife women lately.
Here’s my latest for the talented Rosie Wareham. Thoughts?
📚 📺 Reading, watching, recommending
READING: I’m way behind on my reading this month. Feeling a bit uninspired by my pending pile, so I’ve just ordered The Middle Finger Project by Ash Ambirge. I highly recommend Ash’s Substack for any copywriter or creative who’s not tempted by conventional business-doing. Ash’s newsletter Meat & Hair also introduced me to the phrase “big hat, no cattle” as an alternative to fur coat and no knickers.
WATCHING: Or should I say re-watching. I’ve seen random episodes of Mad Men over the years, but I have dedicated myself to it lately. Proves it’s possible to “show not tell” the casual sexism of my parents’ generation. SO many great one liners. Christ on a cracker. Joan, I love you. Peggy the copywriter, we’ve come a long way. Still only on series 4 …
RECOMMENDING: A summer game revealing the mental peril of words and images that don’t match - Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza. This is a scream for all ages, from about 8-upwards. Remove all rings if you don’t want bruised fingers.
LISTENING: I loved You’re Wrong About’s episodes on Princess Diana a few years back, but the show somehow disappeared from my podcast library. Pleased to re-locate it, and currently enjoying The Tradwife Rises. Delightfully, I’ve got loads of episodes to catch up on, including George Michael, tennis’ battle of the sexes and Amy Winehouse. Here’s the show blurb so you can decide for yourself - “Sarah [Marshall] is a journalist obsessed with the past. Every week she reconsiders a person or event that’s been miscast in the public imagination.”
What are you watching or reading? Feel free to share your own recommendations for future posts.
