VOC research reveals snuffling hamster
Plus 3 under-the-radar spots to find VOC gold
Doing voice of customer research is an early step in my process of taking your messaging from sigh-copy to psy-copy®. It’s something I do in the research and discovery phase of every messaging and web copy project.
Often it uncovers unexpected gold.
As an example, here are some VOC words I found while browsing for Loop earplugs. This is the kind of gem I’d store away for brand personality and voice inspiration.
3 under-the-radar ways to find VOC gold
You already know about customer interviews, surveys and mining for gold in forums and reviews. I’m thinking of sites like Trustpilot, Google, Amazon, G2 or Capterra (depending on your product or service).
Do you fancy adding some quirkier spots for VOC discovery?
I also use these three sites when doing brand voice research.
1 Uses This
In their own words, “a collection of nerdy interviews asking people from all walks of life what they use to get the job done.”
2 Earth Reviews
Imagine we’re living in a simulation. What verdict would we offer on everyday things?
Here’s the premise - “It turns out Earth is just a simulation. Luckily, the creators are looking for feedback.”
3 Play Phrase
Not strictly voice of customer, but a directory of popular phrases from film that can help “place” your messaging.
